About

About the Artist

Hi and welcome to the "About the Artist" bit.

My name is Terry (Teresa) Jackson, I was born in 1958 and I (usually... explanation further down) live in beautiful Adelaide in South Australia with my partner Dave.

I am a fabulous mum, pretty decent cook, a not-too-bad gardener and practicing procrastinator. I am a hug-a-tree-save-the-whales-and-don't-waste-water kind of person and have been told I would have made a great hippy.  Nowadays I am an artist but this wasn't always so.

Now, I could say that being an artist has been my lifelong passion, that I was drawn (pardon the pun) to portraying animals by some mysterious or overwhelming force. I could say that I am an art school graduate with years and years of fine art experience behind me....yes I could say all of that but I won't because none of that is true...this is....

Art had always been an interest of mine. I could wander an art gallery for hours, read books on art and I even dabbled a little in my younger days, producing one or two very average paintings and a crude but interesting sculpture of a fist that was pounded out of a piece of sandstone. I enjoyed doing arts and crafts and making things with my 3 kids. I helped out doing arty things at the local primary school and decorated the sets and programmes for the Spalding Drama Group (I was a bit of an amateur thespian and singer and this was a very small town (around 250 people)...we all chipped in) but that was pretty much as far as it went.

Web site look and feel

This web site is built using the amazing "Joomla" Content Management System (CMS)

Many thanks to the team who build and support this project including all of the contributors of the diverse and prolific extensions available!

The slideshow extension used is Slideshow CK  from the massive collection of extensions at Joomla.org

The embedded video player comes curtesy of the Allvideos plugin.

The awesome gallery extension was built by Phoca Gallery.

Again, many many thanks to the joomla community!

Guestbook and comments

The old web site had an extension that permitted visitors to "sign" a guestbook without actually logging in.  We would love to continue this as it did provide valuable feedback for us.  However, it also caused problems.

Only about 1% of the guestbook entries were real, all the rest were spam!  This has apparently gotten to such a level that guestbook and other comments/ratings developers have given up on providing "guestbook" extensions as they themselves were being blamed for the spam generated through their extension!

So, sorry, no guestbook available here.  However, if you want to comment on the website or any of the content, please contact us as we really value feedback!

Some lovely comments from the old web site.

We had over 650 comments on the old guest book and these 60 odd are the only legitimate ones I could find.  Questions asked below were answered via email.

Thanks heaps to everyone mentioned here!

Totally enjoyed every part of your website. Your drawings are remarkable the attention to detail you show has made your drawings look more like a photograph than a drawing. Each drawing draws us in to look closer and I love that you put down details about the animals you draw. It makes it more personal and educates us more about each animal. Thank you for setting up such a wonderful informative website. Monica P

Been looking over the site again. Quite funny how the sketch of the 3 tired devils was a photo taken by my old boss. I went onto his flicker page and found the original photo. Side by side there isn't a hair out of place. The guys here in the office thoughtit was a B&W photo until I showed them closely. Wanna be careful being that precice... people aren't going to believe that you drew that much detail by hand :grin Amazing.... So when are you going to be rich :p

Love your art! Love your site! I am a Canadian artist - working mostly with pastels. But have started using pencil crayon which seems to take so much longer. Use acrylic for painting on leaves. Seeing your work has inspired me - perhaps I will try graphite. Don't think I can meet your standards though. Also like your website explanation. I also do website design and find it frustrating trying to design for the standard browser. Well done!
